TOEFL- Test of English as a Foreign Language

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is used in college and university settings. Scores on the test are required by more than 4,300 two and four-year colleges and universities, professional schools, and sponsoring institutions.

The test is offered on computers throughout most regions of the world. In areas where access to computer-based testing is limited, a supplemental paper-and-pencil version of the test is administered.

The purpose of the TOEFL test is to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. TOEFL is also used by institutions in other countries where English is the language of instruction. In addition, government agencies, scholarship programs, and licensing/certification agencies use TOEFL scores to evaluate English proficiency.

The TOEFL test was introduced as a computer-based test in July 1998 in many parts of the world. It combines many of the same question types as the traditional paper-based test with new question types that can be offered only on the computer.

TOEFL PREPARATION ANEES HUSSAIN’S WAY

We individualize our course for each student. All students starting the course do a full real 3-hour TOEFL test. Based on this Diagnostic Test, we develop a study program, which is different for every student. Thus a student scoring high on the Written and Structure section will have to spend little time in perfecting his grammar. However, if his Reading Comprehension diagnostic score was low, his program will allow more than twice as much time on the Reading Comprehension module. The program of study for each student is explained beforehand and weekly tests are taken to make sure that students are at par with their week-long preparation.

Normal preparation consists of 3 two-hour classes per week, for 1 month. This program aims to get a score of 650+(out of 677) for each student preparing for the Paper-based test and 100+(out of 120) for those giving the Internet-based test.

Since the program works on an individual basis, a new student can join at any time.
